Despite facing tough opponents including Olympians and professionals Saint Lucias table tennis team delivered a commendable performance at the recently concluded Caribbean Regional Championships. National coaching coordinator Chris Wells expressed satisfaction with the teams efforts particularly highlighting the showing of rising star DeAndre Calderon. Held at the Sir Garfield Sobers Sports Complex the week-long tournament brought together the regions top talent with several Latin American squads fielding elite players. Last year Saint Lucias Minister of Youth Development and Sports Kenson Casimir reiterated his call to end entertainment activities at sporting facilities across the island. He also announced plans to present a proposal to Cabinet for a National Entertainment Centre aiming to reduce reliance on sports venues for such events. Prime Minister Philip J Pierre has urged Saint Lucians to take hurricane preparedness seriously warning that a natural disaster poses the greatest threat to the countrys progress.
